From a single idea in the hills to a 24+ member Himalayan travel company – this is how Darjeeling Trips has been quietly building something big.
Darjeeling Trips was born from one clear insight: most travelers only skim the surface of the Himalayas. We started as a small, founder-led initiative to design trips that feel like being shown around by locals, not vendors. No big budgets, no buzzwords — just deep knowledge and obsession with doing travel right.
We moved from word-of-mouth to the web. Our first website made it possible for travelers across India to discover curated Darjeeling & Sikkim itineraries, check real details, and speak directly to our on-ground team — laying the foundation for a scalable, digital-first Himalayan travel brand.
By 2021, we had successfully completed 100+ trips. More importantly, we created our first true evangelist — a guest who didn’t just travel with us but actively promoted Darjeeling Trips as their go-to Himalayan partner. That was our strongest signal: the experience we were building was worth talking about.
We opened our first office and shifted from “informal” operations to a more structured, process-driven setup. This was when we seriously invested in coordination, quality checks, vendor relationships, and 24/7 support — turning a passion project into a resilient travel operation.
Our team grew to 24+ specialists across operations, guest experience, content, partnerships, and technology. Every new hire added depth — from people who know the tea gardens by lane, to experts who design logistics that simply don’t fail in the mountains.
We expanded to Nepal and Guwahati, unlocking cross-border and gateway-based Himalayan journeys. We also introduced two new travel categories, giving guests more ways to experience the region — from slow, immersive stays to sharper, experience-packed itineraries. The vision is clear: become the go-to specialist for meaningful Himalayan travel at scale.
A short note on why Darjeeling Trips exists, and what we want every guest to feel when they travel with us.
Darjeeling Trips began because the mountains deserved better treatment — and so did the people visiting them. For years, travelers coming to the hills were falling into the same traps: overpriced taxis, fake “local guides,” last-minute hotel switches, hidden fees, and a constant fear of being scammed.
I spent years watching families arrive with excitement… only to leave stressed, confused, or feeling cheated. That never sat right with me. These mountains are home — and guests should feel safe, cared for, and welcomed like family, not treated like transactions.
So we built Darjeeling Trips with one intention: **give travelers a truly local, transparent, and trustworthy way to explore the Himalayas**. No inflated pricing. No fake promises. No shady operators. Just a dedicated team that handles every detail with honesty and heart.
Every itinerary we make starts with a simple question: “If our own parents were travelling, would we plan it this way?” And that’s the standard we follow — every single day, for every single guest.
